What is seed cycling

Seed cycling 101

Seed Cycling is a centuries old practice to support hormone balance in women with the help of seeds to naturally balance female hormones throughout different phases of the menstrual cycle.

A number of factors affect this delicate balance which includes:

Diet

Exercise

Sleep

Stress levels, and environmental toxins

The two main female reproductive hormones: oestrogen and progesterone.

These hormones naturally fluctuate over time, and any deviation from your usual levels can result in a range of symptoms. Common signs include headaches, mood swings, bloating, digestive issues, anxiety, and depression. Additionally, you might experience weight gain, food cravings, low energy, joint pain, and sleep disturbances. Collectively, these symptoms are often associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

However, hormonal imbalances can also lead to more severe issues such as heavy, painful, or irregular periods, difficulty conceiving, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and fibroids.

In postmenopausal women,

imbalances may cause hot flushes, mood swings, and night sweats.

Your general practitioner might suggest treatments like hormone replacement therapy (HRT), pain relievers, or antidepressants to alleviate symptoms. While these medications can provide relief, they often address only the symptoms rather than the underlying causes of hormonal imbalance.

To support hormonal balance these seeds come into the picture:

• Flax seeds • Pumpkin seeds • Sunflower seeds • Sesame seeds

Follicular Phase (Days 1-14):

Flaxseeds and pumpkin seeds are often recommended during this phase, as they are believed to support estrogen production.

Luteal Phase (Days 15-28):

Sunflower and sesame seeds are commonly used during this phase to support progesterone production.

It is important to note that hormonal imbalance occurs over a period of time so seed cycling should be practiced over 3 to 6 months.
